SCREENING FOR ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT BACTERIA IN URINE SAMPLES

Authors: not saved
Abstract:

Chronic urinary tract infections are often caused by antibiotic resistant bacteria. In some of these cases, prediction of the most effective antibiotic (s) may urgently be needed. This can not be achieved unless the nature and patterns of the resistance to antibiotics among the pathogenic bacteria has been described earlier. The urine samples that reached the laboratory of Shaheed Mustafa Khomeini Hospital (SMKH) during a two-year period were screened for the incidence, nature, percentage and patterns of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Theresultsshowed that about 92% of the total isolates were related to the Enterobacteriacae group and more than 94% of these strains were resistant to two or more antibiotics simultaneously. Nalidixic Acid, Amikacin, and Nitrofurantoin were classified as the most effective antibiotics. While Ampicillin, Cephalothin and Carbencillin were found to resist more than75% of the totalisolatedpathogens. The percentages of resistance to other antibiotics ranged between 41% and72% These results suggest that more restrictions should be imposed on the sale and/or use of antibiotics in Iran.

Separation of Fastidious Bacteria in Aging Women Urine Samples

Objectives: Urinary tract infections are today counted aging as one of the infectious and hospital related disease with high especially in aging women. As we know the infection would be identified in urine sample based on KASS scale while in spite of valuable usage of this method the culture results of a significant number of patients appear to be negative while there may be symptoms of infecti...

Factors associated with trimethoprim-resistant bacteria isolated from urine samples.

Urine samples with trimethoprim-resistant or trimethoprim-sensitive Gram-negative bacteria and samples with no bacterial growth (NG) were identified. Age-sex matched community controls were generated with each trimethoprim-resistant case. These four groups were evaluated for exposure. Prior trimethoprim use was significantly more common in the trimethoprim-resistant group when compared with the...

Frequency and Antibiotic Resistance pattern of Uropathogenic Bacteria Isolated from Urine Samples in Kalaleh, North-East Iran

Background & Aim: Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most common bacterial infections that are usually treated empirically. Since antibiotic resistance may vary from region to region, the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and antibiotic resistance of uropathogenic bacteria isolated from urine samples received by the local hospital in Kalaleh (Hazrat Rasool hospital), no...

Determination of hemolysine genes frequency in antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from wound and urine samples of patients

Background: Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacterium that can target host cell membranes with virulence factors such as toxins and peptides. This study was evaluated the frequency of alpha, beta, and delta hemolysine genes in antibiotic-resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolated from patients' urine and wound samples. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 100 a...

New antibiotics for antibiotic-resistant bacteria

The need for new antibiotics to effectively treat antibiotic-resistant infections remains unfulfilled. Despite the well-publicised concern over this issue, only two novel antibiotic classes have been introduced in the past 20 years alongside several new agents of existing classes. Accordingly, the current antibiotic armoury remains inadequate to meet the challenges posed by resistance today. Mo...
